They Still Call Me Bruce
They Still Call Me Bruce Bruce Won arrives in America in search of an American G.I. who saved his life in the Korean War. He meets an orphan boy and together they land themselves in a string of outrageous situations. This high-strung farce culminates when a case of mistaken identity leads a gang of thugs to think Bruce is a karate master. Customer Review: I Was In This Film!
Greetings, friends, this is J David Moeller writing to you. I played “Slim”, the undercover cop in this film. Working with Johnny Yune, Robert Guillaume, Joey Travolta was truly an exciting experience. We shot it in and around Houston and lovingly called it “They Still OWE Me Bruce” because the producers ran out of money toward the end and we didn’t get paid some of our wages. Fortunately, it was a Screen Actor’s Guild sanctioned project and they made sure everyone did indeed get what was due them. It helped get me my first Rolex!
Its production values are much higher than “They Call Me Bruce” but it retains its low humor and goofy acting techniques. Yune is a master at corn as any fan of his many appearances on the Tonight Show can attest. The flick is a bit longish but it is good clean fun for the whole family. Don’t view it expecting to see award winning writing or acting, but watch with an accepting heart and a desire to chuckle at gags you can see coming a mile off. Sometimes that can be highly refreshing. You won’t have to think. You can just sit back with your hand in the Reddenbacher’s and enjoy.
I figure it’ll probably come into its own sometime in mid-century. Actually, due to its saturation play on cable during the late ’80s and early ’90s, a whole generation of youngsters will probably start looking for it to entertain their own kids pretty soon, now.
Grab a cold soda and a hotdog and plunk this into your antiquated VCR and giggle away to your heart’s content.
Thanks for reading this far. I had fun making this film and I hope you’ll have fun groaning to it.
